Many bands revisit Folklore, but so few do it as good as good as Skyforger. This is, i think, the third time this band introduced me to some unique aspects of indo-European immaterial culrure, through the actualisation of their own native creations. As a researcher and as a Black Metal fan i will always be thankful for a new Skyforger release!
Favorite track: Lec, eglīte.

about
Folk metal band SKYFORGER unveil new single "Lec, eglīte" (Jump, Fir Tree), their latest collaboration with fellow pagans from the Latvian folk collective SKANDINIEKI.
“Lec, eglīte” is an ancient Latvian song addressed to the fir tree to jump, leap and dance. It has been sung in many forms and versions for several centuries as a part of the traditional Latvian wedding, at the moment of bringing the bride to the groom.
Also, “Eglīte” is a basic percussion instrument. In Latvian mythology, the evergreen fir tree represents eternal life, and is revered as a boundary marker between this world and the one beyond. Traditionally, wedding itself was seen as an act of dying as a young girl and boy and being reborn as a married woman and man. Fir twigs and branches were used to adorn the bride’s homestead, as well as her seat at the end of the table during the wedding feast, with the mythological purpose of keeping ill-wishers and evil people away, who would just prick their fingers and leave the bride unharmed.

Литоургиiа réussit l'impensable : faire entrer le black metal dans l'église orthodoxe.
I love to listen to this during work, it fills me with calmness and I can almost smell the scents of the forest.
Beautiful & serene from start to finish. SilverFolfy
Bridging Nordic black metal with traditional Celtic folk, the Idaho crushers forge heavy music with a heroic medieval spirit. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 11, 2023
This album is just 100/100, like so many albums from mgla. How can a band hit the spot so many times? They are incredible. Thank you for accompanying me almost daily these days :) adrianradillo
